From what I can tell, the Tauri event that represents the system theme changing isn’t supported on Linux. I also found this note in the source code:
// Currently GTK doesn't provide feature for detect theme, so we need to check theme manually.
// ref: https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/blob/e44ffaa0d999a9807f76f1805943eea204cfdfbc/Source/WebKit/UIProcess/API/gtk/PageClientImpl.cpp#L587
const GTK_THEME_SUFFIX_LIST: [&'static str; 3] = ["-dark", "-Dark", "-Darker"];
If there’s a workaround or this gets fixed upstream I’d be happy to support it; until then, I’m not sure there’s much we can do.

Let me know if you still see this in 0.0.81
Thanks for your answer. Maybe a “this feature is not yet supported on Linux” might help to avoid other users asking or reporting a bug
Where can I get the new release? I only got an email with the link for the 0.0.79
The same URL should get you the latest version; otherwise, if you’ve logged in to the Desktop app with your Hub account, you can download from Home · Atuin Hub
Thanks, reusing the email link worked.
I installed v0.0.81, but just by opening the “Settings” section the 4x CPUs usage spikes to 100%.
As soon as I click on the “home” section, the spike stops.
How can I help you here? any logs I should check?
Thanks
@BinaryMuse I wonder if this is the command trying to load the system font list? I can check later
Tested with the latest v0.0.82: the high CPU usage persists in the “Settings” pane.
I removed the pre-selected font, restarted the app, but the issue is still there.
Am on the same platform. Dark mode is automatically picked.
Same situation here. htop
says it’s the /usr/lib/webkit2gtk-4.1/WebKitWebProcess
process that is consuming 99% of all the CPUs.
I should mention that the spike persists as long as “Settings” is open. I would have expected it to go back down if it loads the system’s fonts.
Once you go back to “Home” CPUs fall back to normal
I believe we’ve determined this to be a bug in the font loading system and we’ll have a fix out for it soon.

Oh, I will test it again then
Did you configure any ENV variable, or it worked out of the box?
Which KDE theme are you using?
No ENV variable for themes. Worked out of the box.
Breath Dark
I am using “Breeze Dark”, from the default set of themes.
Plus configured the GNOME/GTK theme to apply the same
Resolved in 0.0.84! Desktop Devlog - 2025 week 27 - #2 by ellie
Nice! Can confirm that v0.0.84 solves the high CPU usage in the settings page.
The dark-mode issue (this thread’s main topic) is still present, tho
Just checked the topic again. It says KDE-Plasma5. Am on KDE-Plasma6.
Just confirm your version with;
plasmashell --version
Sorry, I wrongly set the title to v5
… while I was running v6.3 (as in the first message’s text), and currently running v6.4
plasmashell 6.4.2
