Running import history more than once

What happens, if I run atuin import auto several times?
Will it duplicate entries?

I’m asking because I have to deactivate atuin for the time being due to a bug. But after that has been fixed, I’d like to import the commands again. Or do I have to truncate the history file after deactivating atuin?

P.S.: I am planning to add this to the FAQ.

It will indeed duplicate entries

Depending on the source format, we don’t always have a way of knowing if a command is already saved or not.

An alternative would be to disable Atuin’s keybindings, but leave it recording history - depending on the bug. By all of your other posts I’m assuming it’s bash-integration related

Thanks for the info.

I am currently using a workaround and I also truncated the history file.

Are you ok with a FAQ entry or an additional sentence in the section Import existing history?

Yes, sort of. It seems to be an issue with iTerm2 and a combination of multiple things. Since iTerm2 is pretty popular on macOS, I’d guess that I am not the only one with this problem.
